Developing Technology & The Evolving Internet

by Stewart M. Russell

Time and tide may be two things that wait for nobody, but something else that nobody seems to be able to catch up with is technology. No matter what field you are in, whether it is media or business or medicine or travel or anything else, technology has made everyone’s life a lot easier. Of all the fields, information technology has been the fastest developing.

Life has definitely become much easier with IT. One of the biggest headaches of any organisation used to be keeping records - technology has taken care of that. Emails have phased out snail mail. Marketing and advertising is done online - most companies and businesses, no matter how big or small, have gone online. You can get anything you want online, from food to gifts to clothes to electronics.

Everything from preparing simple documents, calculating complex functions and imaging to streaming audio and video, instant communication and e-commerce, information technology has ushered in a new era for the human existence. The internet has grouped the entire world into one giant community and as it stands at present, nothing seems impossible.

From application development and computer networking to database management and sophisticated websites, the influence of information technology is everywhere you go. Let’s take a look at how much it has become a part of our everyday use of the internet.

Communication: Over the last couple of decades, things have changed so much, but now we take communicating over the internet for granted. Things have evolved a lot from the first messages sent through the command prompt! Emails, IMs, video conferencing - all these have taken over from conventional forms of communication, like telegrams and mail. Now that the internet and mobile phone technology have been integrated, another step forward has been taken.

E-Commerce: Businesses of all sorts have gone online. You can buy and sell anything at all on the net. Straightforward retail, auctions, second-hand things - absolutely anything you want can be bought, and you can pay for them through secure payment gateways. Now you never have to step outside your home, unless you really need to.

Devices - It won’t be long before a refrigerator with internet capabilities allows you to find the perfect healthy recipe for you to prepare from any ingredients stored inside it. While it sounds far-fetched and quite hypothetical, it’s not impossible. Digital devices are everywhere and manufacturers keep coming up with various ideas to give them better performance and sales opportunities. Some of them have integrated GPRS for web-browsing, while others rely on broadband connections. Brands known to be researching extensively in this area are Samsung and LG.

As technology continues to grow and the eventual influence of it on the internet increases too, the future achievements of humans are unlimited.
