Easy Steps To Cleaning Your Blinds

There is one household chore that most of us dread, and that is cleaning our blinds. This chore can be very frustrating and time consuming, but it must be done because these home accessories seem to be dust magnets.

Cleaning your blinds can be made easier with the following tips so that you don’t feel like you want to put it off any longer.

A vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment is an easy way to clean your blinds. The dust and dirt is gone quickly and the brush eliminates any of the dust flying around.

Using socks to clean your blinds is not only creative but real quick too. Put one wet sock over your hand and a dry sock on your other hand. Alternate cleaning your blinds with wet then dry socks and in not time this chore will be done.

Paintbrushes are not just for painting anymore. By using a clean, small brush it is very effective because the brush fits easily in between each slat and they can be cleaned with one swift hand motion.

Another option is to take your blinds down from the window and soak them in a sink in hot soapy water with a bit of vinegar. Let them soak for about half an hour to an hour then rinse them off thoroughly and wipe them dry before putting them back up. Please note that if you have wood or cloth blinds do not consider soaking them in water. This method is only suggested for aluminums or vinyl.

As with everything else, you can buy attachments to fit your hand and fingers to help you clean your blinds. You may find that some attachments work better then others or that you may feel you have wasted your money on something that didn’t work the way it was meant to. The best way to keep your blinds clean and looking great all the time is by cleaning them frequently so that the dust and dirt does not accumulate.

If you have blinds made of wood, a dusting spray like pledge can be used with a soft cloth to wipe down the slats and provide a barrier to dust, while nourishing the wood in the process. This will leave your wood shining and new looking, and keep it from drying out or cracking at the same time. No matter what material your blinds are made of, regular cleanings will give them a much longer life.
